A bone for Fido?!

20 Nov

I’ve done plenty of special requests with my recipes, but this one takes the cake.

While making the train cake for my little cousin, I was asked to do a second cake. One in the shape of a bone. This one was for the families dog who also had a birthday that day.

While I don’t have any pictures to share with you until the cake is ready to be cut, I do have the instructions on how to make your own dog friendly cake.

This is a cake that is great for your four legged friend to eat. It doesn’t have any ingredient in it that is unsafe for dogs.

So without further ado here is a dog friendly cake:

You will need:

1/4 c butter

1/2 c vegetable oil

1/4 c peanut butter

3 eggs

1.5 c  flour

1.5 tsp baking powder

soft dog treats

Here’s how to make it:

First in a bowl beat your butte with an electric mixer.

Then add the oil, peanut butter, and eggs. Mix well.

Add in your flour and baking powder. Keep mixing.

Finally fold in your dog treats.

Bake in a 350 oven for 40 min. (The recipe I found originally said for 1 hour 15 min, but that would have burnt your biscuit cake.)

Once you remove the cake from the oven, let it cool. While it is cooling soften up some cream cheese. This will be your “frosting”

Remove your biscuit from the pan:

And cut into a dog bone shape.

Frost with your cream cheese. I found it better to use my fingers vs. using a spatula or a knife. Then using some of the remaining dog treats. Add some decorations:

And voila! A Fido friendly cake. So if you have a pooch who is a member of your family, when it comes time for his/ her birthday look no further than your own dog biscuit cake!

Until next time,

Happy Baking!
