Melted Snowman Ornaments

So it’s the beginning of December, and that means it’s nearing time for Christmas! I absolutely love love love Christmas. The season of giving, and of course all of the beautiful decorations. However when you have kids, your idea of decorations often change.

Often times us as parents opt out of the really pretty décor, in favor of something that the kiddos won’t break. We all do it, there’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Who says though, that unbreakable ornaments have to be boring, so today I bring you a how to that I saw all over Pinterest. I don’t know who initially came up with this idea, but if it was you, Thank You! These are adorable.

So without further adieu I bring you a Melted Snowman Ornament!

I  made these ones using:

Some clear unbreakable ornaments- plastic is always a good bet with the kids.

Whole cloves- although you can use peppercorns as well

Orange clay

ribbons- for the scarves and for hanging

and a funnel of some sort.

Begin by removing the tops of the ornaments, and using a little helper, add some salt

Next we separated our cloves, we wanted both parts of them:

Using the “ball” part of the cloves we added them to the salt. We used six, 2 for the eyes and 4 for the mouth.

Then we added the “sticks” 2 of them, to each of the ornaments, for the arms

Next is the noses, we made them with the clay, and baked them according to the package directions:

While those were baking we added some small pieces of ribbon, that we half tied to look like scarves, then added the noses when they were baked and cooled

Now it’s time to make the hangers for the ornaments. For ours we used some large red ribbon, tied to the tops of the ornaments:

To keep the ribbon from fraying over time, just fold it in half, and snip on an angle.

Then add your tops to the ornaments, and enjoy. They are adorable

And they look even cuter on the tree!

So as you are decorating for the holiday season, don’t substitute boring for unbreakable, add a few of these to your tree instead!

Until next time,

Happy Crafting!
